Diploma in Public Health – Level 4
Course Overview
The Level 4 Diploma in Public Health offered by ACQ-London provides learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding required to explore careers in public health, community health promotion, and health policy. This qualification introduces students to the principles of epidemiology, health promotion, disease prevention, and the social determinants of health.
The programme combines academic theory with practical applications, preparing learners to address real-world public health challenges and contribute to healthier communities. By the end of the course, learners will have developed a strong foundation to progress to higher-level study or begin roles in the health and social care sector with a focus on public health initiatives
This qualification consists of six mandatory units designed to introduce learners to the core concepts of public health:
- Introduction to Public Health – Principles, history, and scope of public health.
- Human Health and Disease – Understanding patterns of health, illness, and disease in populations.
- Epidemiology and Biostatistics – Measuring, analysing, and interpreting health data.
- Social and Environmental Determinants of Health – Exploring how social, cultural, and environmental factors impact health outcomes.
- Health Promotion and Communication – Strategies for encouraging healthy lifestyles and behaviours.
- Professional and Ethical Practice in Public Health – Ethical responsibilities and professional skills for working in community health.
Applicants must be aged 18 years or above and meet at least one of the following:
- A relevant Level 3 Diploma or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Two subjects at GCE Advanced Level or equivalent secondary education.
- Mature learners aged 21 years or above with relevant experience in healthcare, social care, or community work (subject to approval by ACQ-London).
- Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency. ACQ-London offers a complimentary three-month English language support programme for those without a recognised English qualification.
The programme is designed to be completed within one academic year for full-time learners. Flexible study pathways are available for part-time and distance learners.
The Level 4 Diploma in Public Health is delivered through:
- LMS-based online learning with live sessions led by public health practitioners and academics.
- Online workshops, seminars, and tutorials focusing on applied case studies.
- Independent study using ACQ-London’s eLearning resources.
Assessment is coursework-based, internally marked, and externally verified. Learners must demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes through:
- Written reports and essays
- Case study analysis
- Presentations and project work
- Reflective portfolios
Graduates of this qualification can progress to:
- Level 5 Diploma in Public Health or related qualifications.
- Year 2 of a UK Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health and Social Care, or related fields (subject to university entry requirements).
- Entry-level roles such as health promotion officer, public health assistant, or community health support worker.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive the ACQ-London Level 4 Diploma in Public Health, a qualification recognised in the UK and internationally for its academic quality and professional relevance.
