Course Overview

The Level 5 Diploma in Dietetics offered by ACQ-London builds on the foundational knowledge of Level 4, advancing learners’ expertise in clinical nutrition, therapeutic dietetics, public health strategies, and applied research. This qualification equips learners with the skills to assess dietary needs, design evidence-based nutrition plans, and support individuals and communities in managing health through diet.

The programme emphasises applied practice, case study learning, and research-informed decision-making, enabling learners to understand the role of dietetics in disease prevention, treatment, and long-term wellbeing. By completing this qualification, learners will be prepared for higher-level study or advanced support roles in healthcare and nutrition services.

This qualification consists of six mandatory units designed to develop advanced knowledge and professional practice in dietetics:

  1. Clinical Nutrition and Diet Therapy – Designing dietary interventions for the prevention and management of diseases.
  2. Applied Biochemistry for Dietetics – Understanding biochemical processes related to nutrition and metabolism.
  3. Dietetics Across the Lifespan – Meeting the nutritional needs of infants, children, adults, and older populations.
  4. Public Health and Community Nutrition – Developing strategies to improve dietary health at community and population levels.
  5. Leadership and Professional Practice in Dietetics – Supervising teams, applying ethical principles, and reflective practice.
  6. Research Methods in Dietetics – Conducting applied research to evaluate and improve dietetic practice.

Total Qualification Time (TQT): 600 hours
Guided Learning Hours (GLH): Minimum 1200 hours

Applicants must be aged 18 years or above and meet at least one of the following:

  • A relevant Level 4 Diploma in Dietetics, Nutrition, Health, or a related subject.
  • Three subjects at GCE Advanced Level or equivalent secondary education.
  • Mature learners aged 21 years or above with relevant healthcare, nutrition, or food science experience (subject to approval by ACQ-London).
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency. ACQ-London provides a complimentary three-month English support programme for those who require it.

This qualification is typically completed within one academic year for full-time learners. Flexible study routes are available for part-time and distance learners.

The Level 5 Diploma in Dietetics is delivered through:

  • LMS-based online learning with live teaching from qualified dietitians and nutrition specialists.
  • Virtual workshops, seminars, and case study learning.
  • Independent study supported by ACQ-London’s eLearning resources.

Assessment is coursework-based, internally marked and externally verified. Learners must demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes through:

  • Analytical essays and technical reports
  • Case study evaluations
  • Dietary planning projects
  • Research assignments and reflective portfolios

Graduates of this qualification can progress to:

  • Level 6 Diploma in Dietetics or related health and nutrition disciplines.
  • The final year of a UK Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or Public Health (subject to university entry requirements).
  • Advanced roles such as senior dietetic assistant, nutrition consultant, or community health coordinator.

On successful completion, learners will receive the ACQ-London Level 5 Diploma in Dietetics, a qualification recognised in the UK and internationally for its academic quality and professional relevance.
